As element #41 on the periodic table, Niobium is a relatively little-known technology metal. Yet, its growing use across multiple industries is delivering revolutionary cost-savings, consumer safety, and environmental benefits.
In many ways, according to Niocorp CEO and Executive Chairman Mark Smith, Niobium is the unsung hero of the industrial metals industry.
How powerful a role can Niobium serve in large infrastructure projects? Here’s just one example: the addition of only 0.025% of Niobium in the steel used in the world’s tallest suspension bridge — the Millau Viaduct in France, pictured above right — allowed for a 60% reduction in the steel and concrete used in the project. That greatly reduced the structure’s material and construction cost, as well as reduced the environmental impacts associated with the manufacture and transportation of building materials to the site.
